The impact of insomnia on quality of life and health: review of pathology and its relevance in the student environment

Sleep is one of the key physiological processes that ensure the normal functioning of the human body. That is why sleep disorders can lead to systemic disorders in the body, causing various somatic disorders, negatively affecting the mental state and social activity of patients. Information on the pathophysiology of insomnia is presented. It has been shown that insomnia reveals signs of increased arousal in the cognitive-emotional, behavioral spheres, as well as at the autonomic or central levels of the nervous system. Modern ideas about the pathogenesis of insomnia are based on the interaction of three main factors involved in the development and chronization of insomnia: predisposing, provoking and supportive. Insomnia is a clinical diagnosis based on complaints, survey data and examination of the patient. Additionally, various questionnaires and questionnaires can be used to assess the severity of sleep disorders, concomitant insomnia syndromes, daytime sleepiness. The article presents the results of a survey of medical university students aged 17-23 years. The analysis of the questionnaires suggests that insomnia is quite common among students. Recommendations for improving sleep for university students are formulated.
