The impact of climate change on the functioning of a commercial bank

The article touches upon the problem of the impact of climate change on the work of commercial banks. The consequences of the risks of transition to a low-carbon economy and the risks of the physical consequences of climate change are considered. The author notes that banks consider the risks of climate change in synergy with other risks - credit, market, operational. The possible consequences for the bank for each of these risks are given. The author notes that there is no consensus in society about the impact of global warming on the economy. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the consequences for Russia can lead to very negative consequences, and according to the Ministry of Science of the Russian Federation, the impact of climate change on the economy will not be noticeable. However, climate change is a risk factor for banks that needs to be taken into account. The article provides regulatory legal acts on which commercial banks can rely when making a decision on taking into account climate risks. The author also highlights the opportunities for banks caused by interest in the issue of climate risks.
