The influence of L.N. Tolstoy's ethical and aesthetic ideas on Russian art of the late 19th century

The article is devoted to consideration of moral and aesthetic views of L.N. Tolstoy in the mainstream of their influence on the current writer’s art. The study emphasizes that it was a thinker’s fundamentally new view on art that impressed the painters to create their works applying the style of critical realism. At the same time, the research notes the specified aspects of L.N. Tolstoy's ideas that to a greater extent gave a common ground for the writer and such Peredvizhniki artists as I.E. Repin, I.N. Kramskoy and N.N. Ge.
