The article analyzes the degree of influence of shipbuilding on economic life in the Voronezh Region in the Peter the Great era. This includes the creation of manufactories, primarily state-owned, the expansion of trade, the development of agriculture and livestock farming, the intensification of entrepreneurial activity among various segments of the population, and the introduction of commodity-money relations. It is emphasized that the dramatic changes in the region’s socioeconomic life, compared to the previous period, when the territory was still being settled and the population was primarily made up of service people, contributed to the elevation of the region’s administrative status and the creation of the Voronezh Governorate. The author points to Peter the Great’s increased interest in the city of Voronezh, where the shipyard was originally founded. The city, which was a fortress relatively recently, is becoming not only a place of craft and active trade, but also the political and cultural center of southern Russia.
