This article discusses the stability of the Russian banking sector in the context of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) based on the dynamics of assets, own funds (capital) and profits in order to assess its impact on the financial condition of banks. The economic downturn, a significant reduction in incomes of the population and business had a huge impact on the activities of the banking sector, which led to a decrease in its profits, the liquidation of credit institutions, an increase in overdue loans. However, with the help of regular relaxations and macroprudential measures taken by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, it was possible to establish an established process of work of credit institutions in the context of the pandemic. When writing the article, statistics from the official website of the Central Bank were used.
