The article characterizes modern Europe, which is experiencing a demographic crisis. The phenomenon of aging of the European population as a whole is observed, which is a consequence of several factors, the first of which is a slowdown in population growth. The example of Italy demonstrates the low birth rate against a background of high life expectancy in all European states. In 2020, it was estimated that the total number of migrants in the world reached 281 million, which is about 3.5 % of the total world population. Europe, East and West Asia took the first place among the most popular destinations for migrants. The total number of migrants in Europe was estimated at 76 million people, in Asia this quantity reached 75 million people. At the same time, migration to the EU only partially covers the population decline.
