The coronavirus pandemic has led to a number of challenges and threats to the global economic system, affecting the macroeconomic situation in Russia, affecting the prospects for the development of transport infrastructure, which largely determines the trajectory and nature of the development of the real sector of the economy and related fields of activity. The introduced anti-covid measures led to a change in the structure of global and local markets, supply and demand, logistics chains around the world, which could not affect the dynamics of the development of the transport industry in a certain way. The purpose of this study is to assess this kind of impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the functioning of transport infrastructure on the example of the Central Federal District. The methodology of the study is based on the use of economic and statistical analysis of indicators of cargo transportation, cargo turnover, availability of trucks, passenger transportation for 2016-2020 using information, analytical and statistical materials of the Ministry of Transport and the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, the results of the work of scientists, researchers and experts. The Central Federal District is characterized by an advantageous geographical location, highly developed infrastructure, and the presence of a large number of logistics chains operating for the import and export of raw materials, materials, and finished products, which made it possible to mitigate the negative impact of coronavirus restrictions. The study revealed positive changes in the dynamics of cargo turnover, cargo transportation and the availability of trucks, despite the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Serious damage was caused to the sphere of passenger transportation: from 2016 to 2019, the dynamics did not change significantly, but in 2020 there was a drop of 27-28% in the Russian Federation and the Central Federal District, which turned out to be caused by a drop in demand for such services.
