46 women with Hashimoto's goiter (group I) and 10 women with diffuse endemic goiter (group III) took thioctic acid at a dose of 600 mg per day for 6 months. The control consisted of 42 patients with Hashimoto's goiter who did not take thioctic acid (Group II). The aim of the work was to evaluate the effect of thioctic acid on the volume of the thyroid gland and the titer of antibodies to thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin in patients with Hashimoto's goiter. The volume of the thyroid gland, thyroid function, antibodies to thyroperoxidase and thyroglobulin were studied at baseline, after 6 months of treatment, and 6 months after treatment. It was found that the use of thioctic acid at a dose of 600 mg per day for 6 months significantly reduces the volume of the thyroid gland and the amount of antibodies to thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin in women with Hashimoto's goiter. These effects persist for up to 6 months after treatment.
