The effect of the probiotic preparation “Vetom 2” on clinical and biochemical status of calves

Traditionally, chemotherapeutic agents are used to treat animals with of gastrointestinal pathologies. However, their use may cause the suppression of part of the microflora that ensures protective functions and prevents potential pathogens from over-colonization of the intestine. In recent years, calf rearing with probiotics is an effective method to restore the intestinal microbial balance. The aim of the present research was to study the clinical and biochemical status of calves with dyspepsia, and the effect of the preparation “Vetom 2” on calf body during rehabilitation after antibiotic therapy. The studies were conducted at the Training and Experimental Farm “Prigorodnoe” on Russian black-pied calves during autumn and winter. Among calves aged 2-3 days, healthy calves and calves with dyspepsia were selected. After a course of antibiotic treatment, the calves with dyspepsia were divided into two groups: the trial group received the preparation “Vetom 2”, whereas the other group did not...
