The impact of the transport system development on the economic competitiveness of megapolises

This article considers the relationship between transport system development and competitiveness of megapolises and their economic activity. The rapid development of urbanization has greatly increased the mobility of the population. Various transport technologies have been introduced and new elements of infrastructure have been created, that has led to a wide variety of urban transport systems around the world. Transportation sector has changed over time under the influence of innovation integration, which in turn has affected on the economic development. The importance of the transport industry for the economy in general is analyzed in the course of the research. This paper analyses world rankings, that are assessed the efficiency of transport systems of major megapolises in the cases of transport systems in Paris, Hong Kong, London, New York, Seoul and Moscow, as a result of which the main factors, that are influenced on the level of their economic development, are determined. Thus, it may be concluded that transport is directly affected on the economic system and ensured its effective functioning. The high level of transport system development is affected on the value of indicators of economic development in the city in general, what is the evidence that an efficient transport system can be used as one of the tools that can influence on the speed of economic development of the megapolis.
