The article describes the results of a study of the influence of social situation of development on features of learning motivation, professional orientation and worldview of the student youth. Social situation of development confronts the subject (person) at each age stage task, the resolution of which is a content of mental development. Gradually, the achievements of subject’s mental development come into conflict with the old social situation of development, which leads to the breakdown of the former and the construction of new relations with the social environment, and therefore to the formation of a new social situation of development. The system of higher education is considered as environment in which the process of formation of the future professional, combined with the process of his personal formation. Professional development and personal self-determination of the future professional is a manifestation of his general strategy of living.
