The article discusses the history of the origin of social networks which possess a lot of oportunities to manipulate adolescents, so it is important to teach students how to distinguish reliable information from deceitful, have their own opinion and not adhere to only one point of view, consider the problem from different sides. The paper reveals the degree of its influence on the formation of critical thinking of high school students. The study of this topic showed the need for the selection of diagnostic tools to identify the level of formation of critical thinking among high school students, the factors affecting it. Critical thinking is of great importance both in educational, scientific, professional activities and in everyday life. In proof of the relevance of the study, the works of foreign and domestic scientists are cited, as well as the state of affairs in the modern educational system reveal the existence of an acute need to develop this quality in adolescents.
