Effect of ceramic mass composition on the preservation of porous ceramic products

One of the most important conditions for a competent restoration is the diagnosis of a destroyed monument: determination of the types and causes of its destruction. The state of preservation of ceramic products is largely determined by the composition and properties of the raw materials, the methods of their preparation, the level of skill of the ceramist, as well as the technological base he had at the time of creation of the products. Any destruction is a consequence of weakening of the structure of the product, due to various violations in the long chain of technological process. The lack of specialized research often leads restorers to fatal mistakes in the choice of methods of restoration of destroyed monuments. The article deals with the composition and properties of the initial clay raw material, the influence of the main additives on the quality of the finished product and related destructions. It will allow to develop a scientifically based approach to restoration and storage of archaeological objects.
