The impact of the institution of unconditional basic income on the socio-economic development of regions

A characteristic feature of modern society and an obstacle to regional developmentand security is the growing material inequality and the formation of a newtechnological order with digitalization and robotization. For this reason, the searchfor new forms of social protection is more relevant than ever. Special attention inthe study is paid to the introduction of the concept of unconditional basic income(UBI) as a form of unified direct payments to all members of society. The papersummarizes the distinctive features of this institution, its types, risks and. Thedata of sociological research on the readiness of citizens of the Russian Federationand other countries to the introduction of UBI are presented. An attempt is madeto calculate the size of a UBI in Russia and to evaluate the prospects for theintroduction of a UBI of this size. It is concluded that there is no alternative to theuse of such payments, at least in the short term, as an additional measure of socialsupport.
