Influence of tobacco smoking on the development of mental disorders in patients with tuberculosis

Introduction. Tuberculosis is often combined with comorbid mental disorders (anxiety, depression) and nicotine addiction (smoking), which have a mutual negative impact on the effectiveness of therapy. Comorbid mental disorders further aggravate separation, distancing and stigmatization of tuberculosis patients. The negative impact of tobacco smoking on adherence to treatment in tuberculosis patients has been proven, which leads to a decrease in its effectiveness, the formation of chronic forms of tuberculosis, and frequent relapse of the disease.
