At present, the problem of inadequate professional self-determination of the individual has become aggravated already at the stage of choosing the trajectory of professional education. A young specialist who made this choice under the influence of external factors often shows a lack of interest in the learning process during the learning process and, as a result, a low level of learning; experiences dissatisfaction with professional activities or does not find himself at all in the labor market in the mastered profession. Professional intentions are associated with the prestige of the profession. The stability of professional intentions is associated with students’ awareness of the requirements of the specialty, a clear idea of its difficulties and readiness to overcome them. The results of the study of professional self-determination of students in the “South Ural State College” based on the diagnostic methods of M. Rokeach (identification of values); L. Yovaisha (determination of professional intentions); E. Schein (types of career orientations) are presented. In the course of the study, it was found that value orientations and the importance of professional intentions are not sufficiently realized by a person at the stages of choice and in the process of vocational training.
