The levels of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) in diets and their influence on the consumption of dry matter (DM), milk productivity and chewing activity of dairy cattle in the first phase of lactation in the conditions of the voluntary milking system were studied. Installed, increase the consumption of DM of the ration while reducing the level of NDF, at the level of the NDF 35,8±0,2% consumption was 18,2±0,2 kg DM of the ration, with 34,1±0,1% - 19,7±0.1 kg, with a 32.6±0,1% - 21,4±0.1 kg, and at the level of 31.3±0.2% of the NDF consumption DM of ration was reached at 23.1±0.3 kg. At the level of the NDF 31.3% of the average daily yield of milk of 4% fat was significantly higher 8.7-10.4 kg (26,3-33,1%) than at the level of NDF of 32.6-35.8% (P
