The service sector of the region accounts for a significant proportion of the entire set of sectors of the national economy, involving a significant number of geographically localized employees, creating conditions for more effective satisfaction of individual and social needs. The article attempts to determine the stability of the region's service sector to the negative "shock" influence of external factors. The purpose of the study is to assess the mutual influence of socioeconomic factors on the service sector in the context of external negative impacts using the pair correlation method. In the course of the study, the authors, based on the available data from statistical groupings of Rosstat, determined a set of socio-economic indicators, the mutual influence of which forms an idea of the current state of the service sector in the regional context; A statistical analysis of the dynamics of selected key indicators was carried out, which showed the fluctuating dynamics of the share of the service sector in the total volume of all sectors of gross value creation. The realization of risks and threats to the economy of the regions of Southern Russia and the obtained values of the pair correlation indicate a relatively weakly negative and relatively weakly positive impact of the selected indicators. The analysis of the data indicates a certain sectoral resistance to risks and threats.
