Extracellular proteolytic activity of five strains alkali- and thermophilic bacteria taken from hot springs in Buryatia was studied.A subtilisin-like enzyme is the most active in the alkaline pH range, thermally stable and characterized by a wide temperature optimum of action. According to hydrolysis character of specific synthetic substrates and the type of inhibition these enzymes are classified as serine peptidases of subtilisin-like type.
