Based on the data of the original text («Eugene Onegin») and its English translations, the author comes to a conclusion that the internal form of a word can not serve as a guide of translating process. According to the author, one can see the reason in the fact that in actual communication the lexemes of a language are being deethymologized. The inner form becomes not actual for a real context. It is right both for translated and original texts.
