Military orchestra as factor of development of the Russian provincial musical culture: on the example of orchestra of Tersky Cossack Army

Military orchestras were an important development factor of musical culture of Vladikavkaz. The activity of the Vladikavkaz military orchestras - Tersky Cossack army and the Apsheron infantry regiment - acted as the catalyst of growth and development of urban musical environment. Military musicians took active part in teaching, educational and charitable life of the city. Concert, tour, musical and theatrical, educational forms of participation of Tersky Cossack army orchestra became the integral components of cultural life of the multiethnic provincial town. By the end of XIX - early XX century in Vladikavkaz the urban musical culture has been developed with a steady audience, rich musical concert and theater life, a layer of professional and amateur musicians
