Volunteer practices in modern Russia as a marker of civil society's development level

The phenomenon of volunteering is considered as a factor considering which it is possible to assess the extent of development of civil society institutions. The author believes that in the conditions of modern Russia the volunteer practices are underdeveloped due to the lack of appropriate values of disinterested activity in the society and the fragility of the system of non-profit organizations.
