The paper represents a pioneering investigation of a single play by I. V. Lopukhin, an outstanding statesman, public figure, writer, and an ideologist of freemasonry. Autobiographic features of the protagonist's image and the reflection of the author's philosophical ideas in the play «Triumph of justice and virtue, or the Good judge» are analyzed. The evolution of the Russian classicist tragedy traditions as well as those of the Enlightenment satire are observed in the drama.
