Issues of national identity in the theology of archpriest Dumitru Staniloae

The article is an expanded text of the report at the scholarly seminar, held at the Department of Theology of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy on February 24, 2021. The article shows the specificity of archpriest Dumitru Stăniloae’s views on the issues of national identity in the era of “Greater Romania” within the context of combining Orthodox worldview, patriotism and statehood while developing the ideological and idea field of the “Romanism” concept. The Romanian theologian’s views are presented on the material of some of his publications in the journal “Gândirea” and the newspaper “Telegraful roman”. At the end of the article, drawn are conclusions about the ontological, metaphysical and sacred character of the nation in the ethnotheology of archpriest Dumitru Stăniloae.
