Issues of restricting the voting rights of previously convicted persons

Introduction: the author analyzes certain provisions restricting the voting rights of citizens with prior convictions. Materials and Methods: the study was conducted using dialectical and materialistic, logical, comparative and legal, and system and structure methods. Court decisions and published works of the Central Election Commission were the base for the study. Results: the author presents the result of the analysis of the Russian legislation on the exercise by citizens of the Russian Federation of the right to vote, that is, the right to be elected to bodies of state power and bodies of local self-government. Discussion and Conclusions: the author suggests changes in Russian law aimed at restriction of electoral rights of the citizens convicted of certain types of crime taking into account their character and focus.
