The memoira of Toropets merchant are under review in this article. The tradition of such notes begins from ancient Russian literature (e. g. Afanasy Nikitin’s notes). The text is studied as source for scrutiny of provincial and other town inhabitants’ life in Russia in XIX — early XX centures.
