Public perception of the problem of regional inequalities in the context of dominant ideas about life success

The article examines the results of public opinion polls of residents of the Nizhny Novgorod Region from the standpoint of studying the perception of territorial inequalities, their manifestations at the regional level and the impact on migration sentiment. The authors consider the right- and left-liberal scientific, theoretical and practical approaches to solving the problem of regional inequalities in the framework of state policy. Based on the materials of sociological research, the conclusion is made about the influence of the dominant values and ideas about life success in society on the interpretation of manifestations of territorial inequalities in the public consciousness. The key thesis of the article is the assumption that the existing state policy aimed at leveling the differences in the development of social and economic infrastructure of the regions is optimal. Proposals to use the left-liberal experience of the countries of the European Union and a number of other states that widely use the principles of distributive justice in resolving the issue in Russian conditions, on the contrary, pose a threat of strengthening internal imbalance.
