The perception of the image of traffic police officer by Khabarovsk residents: dissonance between legislation and customary law

Based on the empirical research results, the paper discusses the perception of the image of traffic police officer by Khabarovsk citizens. In Russia, traffic police officer is traditionally regarded as a corrupt official and blackmailer. This affects the current attitude of the population towards the aforementioned category of employees and reforms in this field. Nowadays, traditional folklore image of traffic police officer does not correspond to the true situation. The author analyzes the factors that determine such a perception and proposes measures to improve the image of the traffic police and its officers. The choice of Khabarovsk as a territorial entity to be reviewed is determined by the fact that there are acute contradictions between the number of vehicles and the capacity of the road network as well as the high demand for traffic control in this city.
