The article is devoted to the linguo-philosophical reflection of the functioning of onomatopoeia in the language system. Onomatopoeia is considered as one of the types of nomination, which functions as a source of formation of lexical and phraseological language compositions. It is shown that the sound plays a cognitive and organizational role in human society. It provides the formation of human sensory and rational reflections of the world and has a regulating effect on the relationship between individuals. Sustained ideas about the significance of the acoustic aspect of knowledge are fixed in the language, in particular, in its phraseological fund. It is demonstrated that the onomatopoeia is primarily a signal-ingression that, in other words, is the material medium of an ideal complex sensory image of the generic class of objects of being. The conversion of the onomatopoeia from signal-ingression into sign-digression and then into sign-ingression is accompanied with the nonlinear processes, which enable us to establish a linear relationship between the signifier and the signified. The assumption is made that verbalization of onomatopoeia is related to its conjunction with the significant categorical forms of the definite language that will allow sign-ingression to form the chain links with other signs, being a part of judgments and conclusions.
