Results of antitumor and antiviral effects of photodynamic therapy were analyzed in 25 women with moderate cervical dysplasia (CIN II), 120 patients with severe dysplasia (CIN III) and in 50 patients with carcinoma in situ. HPV types were identified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) Photodynamic therapy of the cervix was administered using Fotosense and Photogem photosensitizers. In patients with CIN III, complete regression was achieved in 11 (92,5 %) patients, partial regression to moderate dyspasia in 3 (2,5 %) patients, stable disease in 4 (3,3 %) and progression to intraepithelial cancer in 2 (1,7 %) patients. Complete regression of carcinoma in situ was observed in 42 (84 %) patients, partial regression to severe dysplasia in 3 (2,5 %) patients, stable disease in 3 (2,5 %) patients and progression to micro-invasive cervical cancer in 2 (3 %) cases. Antiviral effect of photodynamic therapy was achieved in 94,5 % of cases. Thus, photodynamic therapy has not only antitumor but also detectable antiviral effects
