The possibilities of applying the economic and mathematical apparatus to solve topical problems in the field of tourism

The purpose of the work: to study the experience of using economic and mathematical methods in modern tourism research, to develop an algorithm for selecting economic and mathematical methods that are optimal for solving specialized problems, as well as to identify hidden opportunities for expanding the use of mathematical apparatus in modern scientific research of tourism. The article presents the results of a scientometric analysis of the dissertation activity of Russian scientists for the period from 2018 to 2022. with the identification and subsequent grouping of tasks for which the economic and mathematical methodological apparatus was used. Scaling up the review of references to the above methods is achieved by reviewing the database of domestic and foreign scientific articles. To obtain a better and more complete selection of scientific papers that meet the request, a comparative analysis of academic search engines and bibliographic databases was carried out according to a number of criteria: the volume of indexed publications, the availability of materials, the ability to upload search results, etc. VOSviewer software was used as a software tool for more detailed processing of selected bibliometric networks. This study made it possible to assess the dynamics and density of publication activity, obtain keyword mapping in works devoted to the application of mathematical and statistical methods, and consider the main directions of current scientific research in the field of tourism. A step-by-step algorithm for the application of economic and mathematical methods in tourism research has been developed, leading from the initial identification of the problem and the distribution of tasks to the desired result. The joint consideration of the purpose of the tourist research and the existing information resources necessary for the work made it possible to obtain logical flowcharts with sets of relevant mathematical and statistical methods. The study made it possible to provide a number of recommendations on the use of mathematical and statistical methods in scientific work on tourism issues.
