Prospects for application of electroencephalography (EEG) in cardiac surgery are described in detail, also discussed are problems of EEG-monitoring. Possibilities of using this technique in assessing and predicting a clinical course in the early postoperative period are evaluated. The EEG data obtained when studying postoperative impairment of consciousness are analyzed. EEG phenomena occurring after prolonged extracorporeal circulation are discussed. Correlations between EEG and various neurological disturbances are given. EEG data obtained when using different techniques for anesthetic management of the brain are analyzed.
