The article attempts to analyze the provisions of the Lipset-Rokkan theory of social cleavages in relation to the peculiarities of the models of electoral behavior. The possibility of using the theory of social splits within the framework of conceptual studies of classical models of electoral behavior seems relevant, since this theory is based on some social contradictions that characterize modern socio-political processes. But in the context of post-secular trends and an increase in the degree of importance of image factors, a reasonable conclusion is made that the mechanisms laid down in the framework of the theory of social divisions require adaptation to specific sociocultural realities.
