The article examines inertia, stagnation and innovative scenarios for the development of world energy, identifies their key char- acteristics and shortcomings. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of prospects for the development of renewable energy. The purpose of the article is a comprehensive study of modern trends in global energy relations. The subject of the paper is dedicated to the global energy sector as one of the key constituent parts of the global economy. Special attention is given to the assessment of the global energy market, taking into account interests of energy suppliers and energy consumers. Charac- terized by a causal relationship between speculative risk and the pricing of the energy. Traced the mechanism of the effect of geopolitical events on market conditions the global energy market. The features of the so-called energy of the post-industrial phase. Revealing the stated problems, the author used the following research methods. The applications of the predictive method of cognition allow distinguishing and describing a possible model scenario of world energy development in the medium and long term. Using methods of analysis and synthesis has been investigated and the potential of renewable energy identified further prospects of development of alternative energy. Also when you highlight possible scenarios of global energy used the system method of studying that allows highlighting the strategic elements of each of the presented models of the functioning of the global energy market.
