Emergence of Kurd periodical press (late XIX - early XX centuries)

The article deals with emergence of Kurd periodical press, considerable contribution to which was made by the representatives of Kurd patriotic intellectuals of the Ottoman Empire of the late XIX - early XX centuries. The author analyses the processes of Kurd nationalism development. It is emphasized that Kurds in emigration joined the Young Turk organization "Unity and Progress" and collaborated with their press agencies. It is noted that the Young Turks' struggle against Turkish nationalists facilitated by the presence of remnants of the traditional feudal and tribal strife, discords among leaders in the Kurd society. The author concludes that the short period of the activity of the first Kurd press agencies had not pass in vain, since it was in those days when the foundation of the enlightenment, ideology and organized forms of the Kurd liberation movement were laid.
