The review examines Vladimir Shadursky’s monograph “Russian Classical Literature as Perceived by Mark Aldanov”. It shows the importance of this book not only for the further study of Aldanov’s legacy, not only for the prospects of studying the literature of the Russian emigration, but also for deepening the understanding of the mechanisms of perception of the previous tradition by fiction, the mechanisms of mastering the techniques of the classics, and the understanding of the classical heritage by later authors.
