Detection of breast cancer in the republic of Dagestan Republic

The analysis of breast cancer detection in 51 regions of the Dagestan Republic (DR) during the period from 1991 to 2002 was carried out. Patients who died within 3 months after diagnosis were considered to have stage IV disease. It was found that the reported data did not correspond to the actual one and breast cancer detection in the DR was worse than in Russia as a whole (approximately by 10%). This difference is explained not only by low detection of breast cancer but also the errors in tumor staging.
