The research paper is devoted to the place and role of the Supreme military command of the Russian Imperial army in the political life of the country during World War I. The research is focused on the problem of interaction between the Supreme Commander's Headquarters and Russian state government institutions. Political aspects of the Headquarters leaders' functioning, their contacts and relations with different political powers' representatives have been considered. Political preferences and dispositions of the military commanders and their relevance for the political struggle on the eve of the revolution of 1917.
