Performance of the Mari choral capella in Moscow in 1936

The article is concerned with performance of the Mari choral capella and its gramophone recording in Moscow in 1936, dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Mari autonomous region. The undertaken research shows that even in the complicated environment of the totalitarianism epoch, with scanty financing of the cultural sphere and existing human resources problems, the leaders of the Mari Republic and Office of the Mari Autonomous Region under the All-Russian Central Executive Committee managed to popularize Mari art outside of the republic and keep it for the next generations.
