This article examines the problems of ensuring economic security in conditions of in sufficient qualifications and key competencies of Russian specialists. The development of key competencies is considered on the example of enterprises in the automotive industry, Maglev technology, and machine tool manufacturing. It is noted that the existing core competencies do not ensure the growth of labor productivity, as well as economic security. The risk factors influencing the growth of labor productivity, the low level of qualification of employees and the inability of the management of business entities to increase the level of professional training in the form of mentoring, which is the most promising area of interest of employees and employers in labor motivation, have been identified. The results of the research can be used in the development of internal local documents on professional development of employees.
