The article deals with the simultaneous functioning of several educational paradigms in the area of independent work of students. The importance of independent work of higher school students as a basic condition of their personal and professional development is stressed. Mutually supportive value of the elements of cognitive, information, competence and personality-oriented educational paradigms for the effective organization of independent work of higher school students is considered.
