The relationship between the Soviet state authorities and science in the 1920s

The article reflects the main directions of relations between the authorities and scientific and pedagogical personnel of higher educational institutions in the 1920s. The main attention is focused on the consideration of ways and methods used for attracting the bourgeois intelligentsia to effective and productive work in association with the new government. The author analyzes factors that influenced the attitude of the intelligentsia to the dictatorship of the proletariat. The decline in the prestige of deep knowledge and the deterioration of working and living conditions of the Russian scientific corporation are noted. Moreover, the author notes the ambiguity of the young Soviet government's policy in relation to old professorial staff, which aggravated the already difficult situation.
