Study of accentuated traits and level of decreased mood in patients with irritable bowel syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a prevalent disease among functional disorders of gastrointestinal tract. In formation of clinical manifestations of IBS an important role is played by mental factor. In patients with IBS there are disturbances in psyche and peculiarities of traits. 75 patients with IBS have been examined, mean age 36,60±1,40 years, in phase of exacerbation. Degree of decreased mood and accentuated traits was rated according to scales of V. Zung and Leonhard-Shmishek. 74,67 % of patients with IBS had decreased mood. In patients with IBS predominance of «nhibited» traits and «excitable» ones has been noticed. Higher levels of decreased mood have been noticed during predominance of ecstatic (60-69 scores) and anxious (more than 70 scores) personality traits in patients with IBS.
