Statement of the problem and purpose of the article. The high importance of the interaction between an athlete and a coach in sports training requires the study of its aspects that ensure the effectiveness of the athlete’s activity and the quality of the interaction itself. This question actualizes consideration of the subjective perception of various aspects of sports activity and its connection with the characteristics of an athlete’s activity in interaction with a coach. Methodology of the research. The methodological basis of the research was a systematic approach that involves consideration of intra- and inter-psychic phenomena in their interrelation. The study used: Color Relationship Test (CRT) developed by A.M. Etkind; a questionnaire for analyzing the reasons for success and failure in situations of training, communication with a coach, competition; projective technique “Drawing of a Forest Sports School”; questionnaire for assessing the interactive activity of young athletes. Correlation analysis (Spearman’s coefficient) was used for mathematical processing. Respondents: students of the Krasnoyarsk children’s and youth sports school in martial arts of younger adolescence (N=51). Research results. Martial arts students who show great initiative and a greater focus on coaching in the process of sports training, in comparison with athletes who show these important qualities to a lesser extent: they estimate their contribution to the effectiveness of training and their importance in situations of sports training higher, believing, at the same time, that failure in sports activities is not uncommon. More initiative ones also attribute relatively more responsibility for problems of mutual understanding to a coach. The indicator of the degree of the required coaching influence is associated only with the severity of the locus I in explaining the failure in competitions. Conclusion. The results of the study contradict ideas about a productive role of attributing low stability to the causes of failure, but can be explained by the action of coping motivation mechanisms, can be used in determining the trajectories of further research on interaction in sports training and in programs to improve psychological competence of coaches.
