The article examines the problem of ego identity and social adaptation of the individual. The article briefly provides a theoretical overview of the classical theories of ego identity and social adaptation, as well as the results of empirical research on the interrelation of ego identity and social adaptation of modern adolescents. The empirical study partly confirms the hypothesis for interrelation of personality identity and social adaptation of adolescents; a sufficient level of correlation was found not for all indicators of social and psychological adaptation. However, when considering the correlation "identity status - adaptability (disadaptivity)" (the main indicator of the relationship of the studied parameters) of the adolescent, the author obtained a significant correlation with the opposite sign for the pair "personal identity - disadaptivity", that is, with increase of the identity level, the disadaptivity decreases, which confirms the relationship between the target phenomena. The study shows that the majority of adolescents did not achieve the identity, which indicates that they do not have strong goals and values during the transition period - the period of entering adulthood. The empirical data correspond with theoretical research on the characteristics of modern adolescents, as well as personal changes because of the social change. Although this correspondence requires further research.
