Views on the genesis and identity of the Mongols (a historiographical study)

According to the researchers, the system on genesis and identity of the Mongols is divided into three directions: firstly, the genesis of Mongols originates from the Huns and Donghu, secondly, only from the Donghu, and thirdly, from the Shiva. Those who are of the first opinion consider the Huns and Xianbi as belonging to one historical period and believe that the Huns and Donghu have ethnic ties between each other. Those who believe the Donghu to be ancestors of the Mongols do not think of the Huns as their ancestors. They consider the Huns to be Turkic-speaking. The third opinion has been widelt spread at the beginning of the XX century and many foreign and domestic scholars believe that the genesis of the Mongols starts from the Shiva.
