Morphological features of the thyroid gland in children and adolescents with iodine deficiency

Diseases of the thyroid gland (TG) in children are the most important problem in endocrinology. There have been no studies of hyperthyroidism in children in Uzbekistan. Purpose: to determine the features and morphological structure of the thyroid gland in children and adolescents with thyrotoxicosis. Materials and methods: 213 children and adolescents with hyperthyroidism underwent general clinical, biochemical, immunological, instrumental and statistical research methods. Results: in the group of children with Graves’ disease (GD), grade 2 goiter was diagnosed in 95% of cases, thyrotoxicosis of moderate severity predominated (80%), nodular/multi-nodular goiter - in 20.7%, differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) - in 3.3%. Conclusions: in conditions of iodine deficiency, juvenile hyperthyroidism is accompanied by DTC in 3.3% of cases.
