The systematization of disorders of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is an urgent task of modern maxillofacial surgery. The proposed division of TMJ disorders into arthrogenic and myogenic - is an attempt to eliminate the “confusion” that has arisen among doctors of different specialties. Muscular-functional disorders are much more common and can be successfully treated by stomatologists, neurologists and other specialists, at the same time, surgeons engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of pathology of the musculoskeletal system have accumulated considerable experience in the rehabilitation of patients with arthrogenic disorders, the integration of which into the practice of maxillofacial surgeon will optimize treatment tactics and avoid “inconsistency” among specialists.
