The overall goal of the article - verification and demythologization of the biographical data about S. D. Erzia; the immediate task of the article - identification of the person in the sculptor’s Milanese environment, known in Erzia Studies as “Countess A.” or “Countess Altenberg”. The author argues that this mythological figure hides the real historical person - Countess Eugenie Nicolaievna Adlerberg (1973-1916). As a proof of this version unknown archival documents and photomaterials are introduced into scientific circulation.
