An analysis of the works devoted to the poetics of the title shows that although almost all the facts are revealed correctly, the lack of a systematic approach and the necessary historical perspective makes the explanation of their origin completely unsatisfactory. This is what actualizes the need to review all the revealed facts of the history of the title as a form of the author's reflection on the text of one of the components of the text framework in the aspect of historical poetics. Based on the periodization of historical poetics in the terminology of S. S. Averintsev, it can be found that in the period of pre-reflex traditionalism, the title is absent and appears only when moving to the next period - reflex traditionalism. The most archaic titles include the widely understood genre and theme of the text. Later, the title becomes just a name; common titles with predication occur sporadically. In the Renaissance, the title can acquire a conditional character (numerical name), and the identification of the text is carried out due to the development of the predicative part, which annotates the text and sometimes has an advertising character. The title in its modern form appears in the transition from reflex traditionalism to the anti-traditionalist tendencies of the bourgeois era. In the XIX century, the abstract becomes an independent genre and breaks away from the title, and in the title complex (book name, genre, author), the author first takes the last place, but then moves to the first.
